Our Meetings

The support group is a voluntary organisation of parents of gay and lesbian children who offer support to other parents and families when a family member has 'come out' to them.

Maureen, who runs the Birmingham Parents' Support Group, says "Many parents are shocked and upset and often have little understanding of what being gay actually means. They see it as doom and gloom" she says. "They are often convinced their child is going to die from AIDS. What most parents want is for their child to be healthy and happy and they worry that they won't be. But when they bring their concerns to the group they are surrounded by other people who understand them". "Parents are often afraid to 'come out' because they think they will be judged for it - but at our meetings they can talk about these fears. We all give a brief introduction and talk a bit about our own circumstances and very often parents recognise things we are talking about. To many parents it is like a grieving process, but from listening to us they can see that there is something beyond this".

The group is open to anyone who can travel to Solihull Town Centre.

We meet monthly in Solihull Town Centre. Please click here for more information about contacting the group.
