  • OMG! Like a train wreck, I had to see for myself. I read the reviews and, I knew that this guy was the biggest jerk alive, and she still took him back, but I can't believe it happened as bad as it did. He left her to die alone puking next to her toilet while he went out and got him some young tail. She gets lucky enough to meet a decent man, younger man who didn't make her feel broken, who was there for her during the darkest days of her life but she just throws him away when the jerk loses his [...]

  • I used to enjoy Danielle Steel's books as light, "mindless" reading when I needed a break from heavier fiction or true crime. This book completely turned me off Ms. Steel and I haven't read one of her books since, nor do I plan to. In a nutshell, the so-called heroine is married, an attorney and has a fabulous life until she's diagnosed with cancer. Her husband decides that "in sickness and in health" is overrated nad promptly dumps her. A co-worker at her firm had a sister who suffered from can [...]

  • Hated the ending of this book. How she could take back that disgusting husband that treated her worse than crap while she had breast cancer is unbelievable. He won't discuss it with her, gives her NO support as she has a mastectomy, even has an affair and leaves her. While at work there is another lawyer that gives her total support, holding her while she pukes her guts out from the chemo. Then her husband, Sam, gets what he deserves and is caught up in a scandal that ruins his reputation and th [...]

  • I received this book as a prize for topping my class in English and after having read it, it almost made me regret having come out first. (view spoiler)[At the end of the book, I couldn't decide who disgusted me most - Alex or Sam? No one deserves the kind of treatment Alex got from Sam at any point in life much less when they learn they've got cancer. He treated her like dirt when she was trying to come to terms with the news of her illness, he deserted her when she was going through chemo and [...]

  • God, I hated the end of this book. I would love to give it one star, but I did like the beginning. I just couldn't believe what a jackass the husband turned out to be and that the woman would go back to him. It was absolutely ridiculous.

  • alex has the perfect marriage to sam. she is a successful attorney and he is a whizz kid in the financial world they thought about children and never really got around to it and then she unexpectedly fell pregnant only to suffer a miscarriage she is heartbroken and realises that she would love a child and succeeds with a wonderful daughter who they both adore now she is 4 years old and after 17 years of marriage alex's life is changed by an unexpected stroke of fate she has a mass on her breast [...]

  • I had been told when this book first came out that it was about a womans battle with breast cancer. I had bought it in PB at a garage sale at some point. I didn't read it until sometime in 2000. It is a point in my life, where I am VERY lucky to be married to the man that I am. To some degree, I read what my Aunt had gone through in 1987 and again in 1993. The reason that I am very lucky with my DH is that the morning I started reading this book, I was unable to put it down. He had vague knowled [...]

  • i used to like her books but after having half read of this book i just can't continue to read it out. its a disappointment to have read such a book. i don't know how they published it. the guy doesn't even care for his wife, he doesn't even understand her, i mean, he should be by her side, while she's suffering all this alone. it was harder for her than him. I'd call him a jerk. after reading others' review i came to know the whole story. sorry, but i don't like it, at all.

  • I bought it in a cheap store cause I was engrossed into its plot: a woman battling a sickness and how she and her family cope with it. I'm almost halfway thru it when I decided to read reviews about it, and I say, I get disappointed. We all knew that Sam is a bullshit and I hate him for not consoling his wife, and I hated him the most when he was indulging on Daphne's body while his deformed wife is waiting for him at their house. I don't know if I'll be reading thru the end after I skipped read [...]

  • Lightening by Danielle SteelAlex is a lawyer about to go to trial for several weeks if not months. She has her annual exams and it shows a lump in her breast which they talk her into having a biopsy. She's now going under the knife and the only thing she wants is another child. Annabelle is the best girl ever and she dotes on her whenever she can.She gives the doctor the go ahead to remove parts of her breast and/or lump nodes once he finds out about the mass that is in her body. She is more upset [...]

  • A really silly book, despite the big subjects it developed. The book was repetitive, extremely predictable, quite boring and ALL characters were really hard to believe. Steel could not build their personalities to be not only believable but also consistent throughout the story.Even the characters contradicted themselves in what they were said to be feeling in the same page! The author's style seemed like an amateur's. Sometimes it even seemed like Steel had also got tired of the book and wanted t [...]

  • As a huge fan of Danielle Steel's novels, I have to say, when I read this story I was so dissappointed by the ending she chose that I didn't read her work a very long time I only give it 3 stars because up until the end, it is a very well written, emotionally moving story that pulls you into Alex's struggle with cancer.Helen Laibach, AuthorA Soul Less Brokensmashwords/books/view/

  • Lightning is a story about life - lifetime couples who has gone through intoxicating struggles and journey in life with a sick partner (cancer). I'm a little disappointed with people's reviews on it but I liked the story. How love can bring two people back together no matter how bad they've done or hurt each other. Love takes strength and so much of ourselves and learning. And of course, Danielle Steel also includes temptations and forgiveness. It's a catch. It's a good read in spring.

  • Urgh. Husband is as asshole. She's an idiot for going back to him. Very predictable and irritating. Overall I'm glad to see this book in my past

  • Okay, this is the kind of book that will make you cry like a baby under your blanket in the middle of the night. It was enjoyable from the beginning to the end. the life of a successful woman was struck by lightening destroying her perfect family. *sighs* one just has to read this book to understand how perfect it is. Don't forget to keep some tissues papers beside you while reading it because trust me you'll NEED them( you're welcome

  • I can't even rate this book because at times it was everything, from five stars to one star. It did, however, force me to critically think about my own relationships and what loyalty means.

  • As a partner in a prestigious New York law firm, a doting mother to a rambunctious and beautiful three-year-old girl and a loving and supportive wife to a man who is a star venture capitalist, Alex Parker believed that she had it all. Sure the work was hard; the hours long - juggling a marriage, career and raising a child was exhausting. for Alex. Her life was difficult but rewarding until a routine mammogram shatters her stable little world. Now, Alex and her formerly loving husband, Sam are str [...]

  • “Lightning” by Danielle Steel is a very capturing book. Steel choses to cover a topic of sadness and harsh realities in our world today : Cancer, and it’s all round effects on the people it affects. The plot played around characters any reader would love to explore. Even making these characters aristocratic uptown New Yorkers, Steel managed to slowly unfold their relatable characteristics, so as to entertain the reader in a way they cannot forget. I loved the flow of the plot more than I d [...]

  • This book is a gross mixture of some unrealistic and grotesque circumstances and it is a joke of the relationships. The story of Alex, a happy woman after 17 years of marriage comes to know that she has breast cancer and she has to go through mastectomy and chemotherapy; she has a hellish time going through it all while her amazing husband remains distant or angry, depending on his mood and gets tangled in an extra-marital affair. This is when she comes closer to her colleague who supports her t [...]

  • As always, Danielle Steel writes an excellent book! This story is about 2 powerful people who have good careers and that's all they focus on for a number of years. As the wife faces her biological clock ticking away, they decide to have a child. They are instantly enthralled with the child upon birth. They also decide to have another child immediately. However, as is often the case, she doesn't get pregnant easily this time. The story takes the reader through the heartache of a couple desperatel [...]

  • This book is about a picture perfect couple that have the perfect marriage and careers for over ten years. They accidentally get pregnant and Alex is a prestigious lawyer and her husband Sam is a financial assistant. They both are well known in their respective careers. Alex thinks she isn't ready to have a baby. So she wishes she wasn't pregnant and actually has a miscarriage. Then they decide to try for a baby and love it. Alex goes and has a yearly mammogram and discovers she has cancer. Sam [...]

  • Rating: 3,5/ 5A very interesting book about a successful woman Alex, who discovers that she has breast cancer and all the challenges she then goes through. I found that book very informative and well-written with good characters and a plot that is scarily common - what a woman might feel when going through something like that - finding out about cancer, losing a breast and going through changes that struck so fast that you don't even have time to turn around and think about what just happened to [...]

  • This was the first Danielle Steel novel I have ever read, and honestly, I don't know if I'll read another. I picked it up because my mom was cleaning out her old books and offered it to me. It was a fast read, and was an interesting premise, but the ending really ruined it for me.Bright spots: The heroine's struggle with cancer was very realistic and I really enjoyed watching her overcome all of the challenges that came with having cancer. What disappointed me was the (view spoiler)[sudden turn [...]

  • This is the first book of Danielle Steel so I really have no expectation from this book. Actually, the book's plot did not intrigue me at all, not until I've started reading.Lightning is about a successful woman who has an almost perfect life- successful career, good marriage and an adorable child. And the chaos began when she found out that she has cancer. Sam changed into a different person overnight and Alex, the protagonist, has to manage about her sickness alone. Not for long though because [...]

  • A very emotional book, the main character gets breast cancer, her husband is unable to cope with her illness due to his own issues and leaves her. She is left by herself trying to cope with cancer, chemotherapy and full time work as well as as a child. A younger work colleague helps her and they form a relationship, he supports her through her cancer, her treatments, her breast reconstruction. At the end of it all she comes out healthy and on top of things, her husband comes back into her life, [...]
