  • I didn't really care for this book. The writing was fine, but the characters were not true to themselves. I have a big problem with writers who take the time to create a character and then spend the rest of the book violating that character for the purposes of storytelling. I don't know how many times that I have run into that lately. Why bother with character development at all if you are just going to have your characters act any old way?   • I finished this book about a week ago and I liked it. Celia had an awful marriage and now that she's a widow she has to take care of herself in any way she can. So she takes on a mission for the Queen and travels to Scotland. But she didn't know she'ld be escorted by John, the man she once loved with all her heart. Everything in this book, from the romance, danger, sex, historical context and plot was perfect storm for me. I loved it and the perfect book to finish my challenges!! Well done Mrs McCabe
